What is Organic Sunscren?

Sunscreens fall into two categories and they are either organic or inorganic. The inorganic sunscreens are chemically based, while the organic contain more natural products. Organic sun block however does not mean it is naturally produced. It will contain a wide range of natural products to add the benefits of sun protection.

Organic Sunscreen is fast absorbing and offers sun protection. This protection is done with the use of natural plants and minerals. One such mineral that adds to the protection from the sun is the pigment titanium dioxide. It is a non-toxic mineral that is able to provide natural protection from the sun. The use of a wide composition of plants, pure essential oils, various vitamins, organics herbs and pure plant proteins  help to fortify and moisturize the skin, while offering photoprotective protection.

Organic sunscreens are absorbed into the skin to some extent. PABA (para amino benzoic acid) is a popular ingredient in many sunscreen. Most people have an allergic reaction to it. Another ingredient contained in the sunscreens is Benzophenone (Oxybenzone). This is common in organic sunscreen.

Organic Sunscreen Facts

With the drive of people to find and use organic products, people wonder if an organic sunscreen can give the same protection as one with chemicals?

Most organic sunscreens block only UVB rays. For protection from these rays it is good to use an organic sunblock that is SPF15. This type of sunscreen is able to block 95% of UVB rays. Organic sunscreen of SPF30 will only block 2% more UVB rays.

Aside from UVB rays there are UVA rays. The zinc oxide in the organic sunscreen will block UVA rays more than any other product contained in the lotion.

Look for organic sunscreen that contains the minerals zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They scatter and reflect radiation from the sun. Zinc oxide is generally considered very safe and causes very few allergic reactions. Many sunscreens are now microfine and contain particles that are so small they cannot be seen .

You should apply a lot of sun screen, and you should reapply often.  Follow the instructions on the bottle to ensure that you are protected fully from the harmful rays of the sun.

When choosing an organic sunscreen, make sure you read the package thoroughly. Find the one that smells and looks like it can offer you the protection you need.
